Gracious Father

In April of 2011 the Lord Jesus gave me a new gift – the gift of writing spiritual (scriptural) songs, and for this purpose:

“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
(Ephesians 5:19-20 NIV)

From April of 2011 to June of 2014 the Lord Jesus gave me 163 songs to write. I have now posted all of them on this blog. Many of you have not seen all of them, so I am going to post them a second time, usually one per day, so if a song looks familiar to you, that is why. The songs are not professionally recorded with the exception of one – For Our Nation. They are home recorded with computer instrumentation. I am sharing them for the encouragement of the body of Christ and out of obedience to my Lord in speaking to my fellow Christians in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, all for the glory of God.

This was the first song the Lord Jesus gave me to write. After he gave me the tune, and just one verse, I was humbled, inspired and blessed over what He had just done in me and through me by giving me this new gift. Then, later in the day, when I was busy working in the kitchen, I asked him if he had a second verse. He immediately poured into me the words of this second verse, just as he had done with the first. What a blessing!

This song was a miracle of his grace in my life. I praised him and I thanked him for this blessing of song. And, three years later I continue to thank him and praise him for this wonderful gift of music, for he has used these songs in my life over and over again to continually encourage and strengthen my heart, to comfort and bring healing, and to spur me on to follow him in obedience and surrender to his will.

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” ~ John 1:14

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” ~ Ephesians 2:8-9

Gracious Father / An original work / April 6, 2011

How great are You Father;
how great are You, Lord.
My heart so adores You;
Your mercy outpour.
Your love and your kindness;
Your gracious reward
Are treasures from heaven
that we can’t afford.
So, freely they’re given
and humbly received
When we bow before You
on penitent knee.

O gracious Redeemer;
my Master and King,
To You I owe everything –
my offerings I bring
With whole heart devotion,
to honor and praise
My loving companion
and friend for always.
It’s You I serve only,
to walk in Your ways,
So I have your promise
for all of my days.
